QUEEN'S CRADLE
I come from the great Darkness; the Sky beyond your sky, a place where the universe is still being born. If you had asked me as a child, I would’ve said I was swaddled in the arms of Darkness herself, and that those arms reached on forever.
That black Sky was made just for me, for the quiet softness of my being. I danced in passing energy, both of us invisible. I laid still for as long as you could imagine, and then for longer still. My life was measured in low rumbles of distant planets waking up. But hours did not pass freely for it was only three thousand years that I lay in the black blankets at peace.
It happened one day, that a secret voice descended into this soft and precious dark and it whispered to me about Light.
It told me that there was an unmistakable glow around my darkness, and that it was so beautiful. This was no unending sea, it said, but a round and rolling egg with a shell made of stars.
“Do you know about stars?” it whispered in my ear.
